Link has a wide variety of weapons. Here are what I've found:
Sword
In every Zelda game Link has a sword (though in the first Legend of Zelda game, if you don't go in the first Old Man's cave, I think you can go through the game without a sword). Link is normally associated with the Master Sword, but there are many different swords Link has used in games.
Boomerang
Another weapon that is very consistent in the Zelda series is the Boomerang. It is useful for many things: stunning enemies, hitting thing that are out of your reach, and even using wind to move things. One boomerang even has a name: the Gale Boomerang. The Gale Boomerang uses wind to move things.
Bomb Bag (Bombs)
Another Zelda consistent are Bombs, though sometimes they are annoying. This is because in some Zelda games it takes SOOOOOO long to find the Bomb Bag. There isn't much to say about this one because they have one purpose: blow stuff up!
Bow And Arrows
The Bow and Arrows don't have a lot of purposes. They are used to shoot people and things out of your reach. That is about it.
The Shield
One thing I know is in every Zelda game is the Shield. You normally have to get it except for in Phantom Hourglass, you can leave the first island without it. Sometimes you press a button to block or just carry it. Some shields can't be near fire or they will burn up!
Bottles
The Bottle is an item, but is a main part of the games. You can store so many different things in it: Milk, bugs, honey etc., even blue fire!!
Lantern
Another item is the Lantern. The Lantern is used to light your way, but it only has a certain amount of fuel. It can also be used to light certain lamps.
Link has other things but they are not super important. I will write about other items though soon.

Zelda's Different Forms
Zelda has many different forms. Here they are:
Sheik
Sheik is in Ocarina of Time. Sheik is actually a boy until the she reveals herself and she becomes Zelda again. Impa used magic to turn Zelda into Sheik. After Sheik is hurt, Link saves her and Sheik breaks her diguise, revealing her as Zelda. But almost right after she is captured by Ganondorf.
Princess form
Zelda is in princess form for alot of the games. There is not a lot to say about this form because it is her normal form.
Evil form
This is when Zelda gets taken over by Ganondorf in Twighlight Princess. She doesn't stay in this form for very long. After Link defeats her by deflecting balls of light she was shooting at him back at her, she returns to her normal form.
Tetra
Tetra is in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. In Wind Waker, she turns into Princess Zelda. On Phantom Hourglass, the pirate band and Link know she is Princess Zelda, though she does not turn into Zelda.
Spirit Form
This form is in Spirit Tracks. She turns into this form when she is hit by a spell from Chancellor Cole. I have not played this game but she probably gets her body back.
More Zelda stuff coming soon!

Main Characters
Link
Link is the main character. He is in all the Zelda games. There are many different Links. In most of the Zelda games there is a different Link (Exceptions: Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks, which are publicly related), but some of them seem to be related (see split timeline post). He never starts out as THE Hero of Time, though in some he is already a hero. He becomes THE Hero of Time when he draws the Master Sword (or the Four Sword, etc.). He always saves Zelda in the end (except for Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask).
Zelda
Zelda is the game's princess. She suffers from Frequent Kidnapping Syndrome. Zelda and Link seem to have a romantic relationship, but never seem to do romantic things. In fact, sometimes she has yelled at him. She needs to help him figure out they like each other or else he'll turn to one of his other romantic intrests.
Princess Zelda has many different forms. I will put this in another post.
Ganondorf (Ganon)
Ganondorf is the main bad guy. He appears in almost all the games. He is always trying to capture Zelda. He either is really stupid, really wants whatever power Zelda has, or really thinks she is hot! He always thinks he is better than Link. He will sometimes use a greedy person to help him, or do his dirty work. In the end battle, he may sometimes turn into a beast, like the picture above. Ganon is his alternate form. Ganondorf cannot die unless his Beast Form dies. Ganon appears in some of the earlier games and is Beast Form Ganondorf. So far he has not been able to beat Link.
